An SUV-truck accident this Monday around 9:30 a.m. on Potranco Road near Loop 1604 resulted in the death of the SUV driver, according to police.
Bexar County Sheriff’s Deputies say that a man in a black SUV was headed westbound on Potranco Road when he attempted to enter the driveway of a Dollar General store.
Police believe the man decided that he could not make the turn and instead tried to re-enter his lane of traffic, at which point he crashed into an 18-wheeler at the center stripe.
The SUV driver died at the scene. A car behind the crash was unable to stop and collided with the SUV, and that car’s driver, her husband, and her 5-year-old son were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A young boy was injured after being hit by a pick-up truck. According to police reports, the boy was waiting for an ice cream truck when he was struck by the other truck.

One of the most dangerous types of accidents on the road are truck override and truck underride accidents.
Truck override accidents occur when a large truck runs over a smaller vehicle in front, while truck underride accidents occur when a smaller vehicle slides under a larger truck.
Because of the significant size differences between the two vehicles, small cars are often badly damaged in these accidents. Along with the car damage, individuals involved in these accidents often sustain serious injuries and may even be killed.

The state of Texas may be the most likely place for drivers to be involved in accidents with semi trailers.
According to statistics from the National Highway Transportation Safety Association’s National Center for Statistics and Analysis, Texas accounted for 10.4 percent of fatal large-truck accidents.
This statistic, however, may be a bit misleading because Texas is a large state and a place where a large percentage of trucking occurs. Nonetheless, drivers should exercise particular precaution when driving near large trucks.

Semi-trucks cover thousands of miles each week. All of this distance wears down many parts of a semi-truck.
While these trucks are required to be inspected and repaired regularly, they can breakdown from time to time.
One of the most dangerous breakdowns occurs when a trucks brakes give out. When this takes place, other drivers on the road should yield to the truck and contact the police immediately.
