A Mississippi man is facing federal charges for illegally collecting Social Security disability benefits from 2005 to 2011.

The man, identified as Alan Paul Blache, was charged on Wednesday, November 13.  After waiving the initial indictment, Blache  was charged for a bill of criminal information.

According to federal court records, Blache received around $114,000 over the six-year period. He is scheduled to make an appearance in the U.S. District Court in Gulfport on Friday, November 22. He will plead guilty to the fraud charges.

The federal government protects the Social Security program through enacting serious consequences for people that try to take advantage of the system. If you are in need of financial assistance in the San Antonio area, contact Chris Mayo Law Firm at (210) 999-9999.

SSI claims administrator faces charges for extortion and bribery

A Social Security claims representative was charged with two counts of extortion and two counts of bribery in the last week of September for allegedly requiring claimants to pay a processing fee to be able to file their Supplemental Security Income claims.

Forty-two-year-old Memphis, Tennessee resident Montrell Levelle Arnold was indicted by a grand federal jury and may face up to 20 years of imprisonment and $250,000 in fines for each extortion charge, plus another 15 years of jail term and a fine of up to $250,000 for each bribery charge.

Arnold’s allegedly would contact the beneficiaries by telephone and text message to confirm the arrival of the SSI benefits into the claimants’ accounts and arrange for the payment of his “processing fee.”

Washington Examiner’s analysis of a 2009 SSA study

Posted on July 28th, 2013 No Comments

Recently, The Washington Examiner published an article that analyzed a 2009 Social Security Administration report in-depth, noting the number of Americans receiving disability payments and the characteristics of these recipients.

According to the article, about 11 million Americans are on Social Security Disability Insurance, which provides people who have been previously employed and put some of their income into Social Security before becoming disabled, while around seven million Americans are receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI), which provides disability benefits to those who have a limited income and have petitioned to be classified as disabled.

Additionally, the 2009 report and The Washington Examiner‘s analysis of it show that check recipients in the SSI program were experiencing less bodily pain than those who had paid money into Social Security and were receiving SSDI payments. Those receiving SSI payments were also more likely to be overweight, lack education, and had broken homes.
