Interstate 35 blocked after morning18-wheeler accident

A section of Interstate 35 was blocked after an 18-wheeler and utility truck accident occurred in the Northeast area.

According to officials, the accident occurred on Friday morning on the southbound lanes of I-35 Olympia Parkway when the tire of the utility truck blew out. This caused the car to crash in to a highway sign, which caused the sign to fall into the roadway.

The drivers of both vehicles were transported to the hospital in order to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. All southbound lanes of 35 were closed while crews cleared the scene.

SAPD Officer Injured in Truck Accident

A San Antonio police officer was injured in an auto accident Wednesday morning.

According to officials with the San Antonio Police Department, an off-duty police officer was on his way to work in his personal vehicle when the accident occurred shortly after 6:00 a.m. Sergeant Michael Oliva said the accident took place on Interstate 10 between DeZavala and Huebner roads.

According to the police accident report, the unidentified officer was traveling east on the access road to Interstate 10 in a pickup truck when a tractor-trailer suddenly pulled out of a side road into his path. The officer was not able to stop his vehicle in time and “T-boned” the tractor-trailer, Oliva said.

The officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the accident and was transported by ground ambulance to University Hospital for treatment. No information on the nature of his injuries was available. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation by the San Antonio Police Department.

Chain reaction truck accident on South Side

An accident on the South Side occurred around 11:30AM on Thursday on South Presa, just north of Military Drive.

News 4 WOAI reported that the accident started when a cement truck traveling nouth on South Presa stopped to turn at Old Corpus Christi Highway and an 18-wheeler behind the cement truck began jerking due to an engine problem. Another 18-wheeler traveling south on South Presa then collided with the other 18-wheeler head on, causing it to run off the road and into a ditch.

The driver of the second 18-wheeler suffered back and knee injuries.

SUV-truck accident leads to tragic death

An SUV-truck accident this Monday around 9:30 a.m. on Potranco Road near Loop 1604 resulted in the death of the SUV driver, according to police.

Bexar County Sheriff’s Deputies say that a man in a black SUV was headed westbound on Potranco Road when he attempted to enter the driveway of a Dollar General store.

Police believe the man decided that he could not make the turn and instead tried to re-enter his lane of traffic, at which point he crashed into an 18-wheeler at the center stripe.

The SUV driver died at the scene. A car behind the crash was unable to stop and collided with the SUV, and that car’s driver, her husband, and her 5-year-old son were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
