Reckless driver injured after 3-car accident

Around 11 p.m. on Sunday in San Antonio, a reckless driver caused a three-car collision that left her with injuries.

The woman was driving south on Highway 281, when she began trying to pass cars in front of her by using the emergency lane. She continued to do this until a driver in front of her used their brakes to slow down, and she crashed into the back of their motor vehicle.

Before the reckless driver came to a complete stop with her vehicle, she struck a pick-up truck, and rolled over. The 34-year-old woman was taken to the San Antonio Military Medical Center where she is currently listed in critical condition.

Two injured in midnight crash

A late night car crash sent two people to the hospital in San Antonio.

According to police, the driver of the car was speeding when his car side swiped a a utility pole on the passenger side. The incident occurred when he was traveling northbound at the intersection of West Avenue and Santa Anna.

 The collision heavily damaged the vehicle, and the driver and passenger had to be cut out of the car by firefighters who arrived to the scene. Once removed from the car, the two victims were taken to University Hospital for treatment of their injuries.

An investigation in ongoing in to whether alcohol or another factor contributed to the cause of the accident.

Police cite speeding as likely cause of fatal crash

A San Antonio crash that left 1 killed and 1 injured was likely caused by excessive speed, police say.

The accident occurred on San Antonio’s south side on Mission Road when a vehicle swerved, struck a pole, then hit a cemetery fence.

The driver was killed by the crash and pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, a woman, was airlifted to Brooke Army Medical Center for treatment.

Driver responsible for 2008 crash pleads guilty

The driver responsible for the crash that led to the deaths of three suspected illegal immigrants in 2008 pled guilty to the charges against him this week.

The man on Thursday pleaded guilty to conspiracy to transport illegal immigrants for profit, resulting in death.

The 21-year-old driver faces up to 15 years in jail and possible deportation to his native country of El Salvador. His sentencing will take place in February by a San Antonio judge.

According to police, the crash occurred when they tried to stop two vehicle suspected of transporting illegal immigrants. The 21-year old crashed his vehicle while attempting to escape from police. 

One killed in single-vehicle crash

According to police, speeding was the main cause of a fatal single-vehicle accident that occurred early Thursday morning.

The accident happened around 6:15 AM Thursday about one and a half miles south of Loop 410.

Police say the 35-year-old driver of the car was headed southbound in the 10700 block of Zarzamora Street, on his way to work, when he lost control of the vehicle. It struck a utility pole and the crash killed the driver.

Man injured in police-crash awarded $250,000

The San Antonio City Council this week awarded $250,000 to a local area man who was injured in a 2008 reckless driving auto accident involving a San Antonio police officer.

According to the man’s claim, he was forced to undergo several surgeries following the crash, with medical bills totaling $125,000.

The Nov. 28, 2008, accident occurred when the officer named in the claim ran a red light when responding to a shoplifting call. He slammed into the man’s vehicle and careened off, striking and killing another police officer standing nearby.

The officer was indicted on manslaughter and aggravated assault charges last December, and faces up to life in prison.

Motorcycle accident leaves two injured

A 55-year-old man and his 54-year-old wife were involved in a motorcycle accident May 8, at approximately 11 a.m., according to police.

The accident happened on FM 470, just north of Seco Creek. Police say that the man and his wife were riding on his motorcycle when he attempted to navigate a curve at unsafe speeds. The motorcycle left the road and hit a patch of gravel, throwing both off. Both riders were wearing helmets.

The man suffered incapacitating injuries and the wife was seriously hurt. Both were taken to University Hospital.

The man was cited with driving without a motorcycle license.

San Antonio motorcyclist dies in speeding accident

A 26-year-old man was killed last Saturday morning in what appears to be a reckless motorcycle driving accident.

The man was riding his motorcyccle along Interstate 10 near Callaghan road at what police call a very high rate of speed when he rear-ended a vehicle in front of him.

The impact threw him from the bike. While police are not sure how fast the man was driving, the motorcycle slid another 1,100 feet before coming to a stop.

Emergency personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene.
