The United States Department of Agriculture announced a recall of both Campbell’s SpaghettiOs and ConAgra’s Marie Callender’s frozen meals.
According to The Los Angeles Times, the Marie Callender’s meals have been linked to cases of salmonella in 14 states. The LA Times writes that, “Twenty-nine people have fallen ill; eight of them reportedly ate the meals in April or May.” All Marie Callender’s meals with the title, “‘Marie Callender’s Cheesy Chicken and Rice White Meat Chicken and Broccoli over Rice Topped with Rich Cheddar Sauce,’” are being recalled.
As the LA Times points out, this is not the first major recall for ConAgra. It was the company that manufactured Peter Pan Peanut Butter.
Campbell’s has also announced a recall of their SpaghettiOs with Meatballs. According to the Times, “after a cooker failed to work properly at one of the company’s Paris, Texas, processing plants. As a result, some of the beef and noodles may have been undercooked, the company said.” The recalled cans are marked “EST4K” and expire between June 2010 and December 2011. No illnesses have been reported so far.
