Kotex tampons recalled

Posted on November 16th, 2011 No Comments

Kotex Natural Balance Security tampons have been recalled due to a bacteria that has contaminated the raw materials used to make the product, according to manufacturer, Kimberly-Clark.

According to a press release from Kimberly-Clark, “The tampons were manufactured with a raw material contaminated with a bacterium, Enterobacter sakazakii, which may cause health risks, including vaginal infections, urinary tract infections (UTIs), pelvic inflammatory disease or infections that can be life-threatening. Women with serious existing illnesses, cancer or immune-compromised conditions, such as HIV, are at increased risk. There is limited evidence of transfer between individuals with this bacterium.

The impacted product includes both 18-count and 36-count packages of the Kotex Natural Balance* Security ® Unscented Tampons Regular Absorbency that were shipped to retail customers between October 29, 2011 and November 2, 2011 in specific Walmart stores in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico and Texas; specific Fry’s stores in Arizona; and specific Smith’s stores in Utah and Arizona.”

Posted on July 7th, 2010 No Comments

The United States Department of Agriculture announced a recall of both Campbell’s SpaghettiOs and ConAgra’s Marie Callender’s frozen meals.

According to The Los Angeles Times, the Marie Callender’s meals have been linked to cases of salmonella in 14 states. The LA Times writes that, “Twenty-nine people have fallen ill; eight of them reportedly ate the meals in April or May.” All Marie Callender’s meals with the title, “‘Marie Callender’s Cheesy Chicken and Rice White Meat Chicken and Broccoli over Rice Topped with Rich Cheddar Sauce,'” are being recalled.

As the LA Times points out, this is not the first major recall for ConAgra. It was the company that manufactured Peter Pan Peanut Butter.

Campbell’s has also announced a recall of their SpaghettiOs with Meatballs. According to the Times, “after a cooker failed to work properly at one of the company’s Paris, Texas, processing plants. As a result, some of the beef and noodles may have been undercooked, the company said.” The recalled cans are marked “EST4K” and expire between June 2010 and December 2011. No illnesses have been reported so far.
