West Side Crash Kills Man

Posted on February 15th, 2013 No Comments

A driver was instantly killed after a car rear ended his vehicle on West Side Highway, Sunday officials said.

The unidentified driver was reportedly moving slowly when a car driven by a uniformed off-duty deputy of Bexar County Sheriff’s Office slammed into the back of his car, San Antonio police reported. Officer Michael Moore said the off-duty deputy was surprised when the slow moving vehicle apparently swerved in front of his car. The two vehicles then slammed to a concrete barrier, pinned the other driver inside his car as a result of the impact. The pinned driver was given cardiopulmonary resuscitation by military personnel who happened to be also on the scene, but could not be revived. Two other passengers of the rear ended car were rushed to the hospital for minor injuries.

The off-duty deputy himself was reportedly uninjured and is unlikely to face criminal charges.

Losing a loved one, particularly in an unexpected accident, is difficult. Our attorneys at the Chris Mayo Law Firm send their thoughts and condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the driver killed in this accident.

The effects of marijuana on drivers

Posted on May 18th, 2012 No Comments

Driving under the influence of marijuana has been linked to fatal consequences.

Several studies have been conducted on the subject, and a connection between marijuana use and fatal car accidents has been established. The major reason for this connection stems from the mental effects that marijuana has on an individual.

The effects of marijuana can include paranoia, inability to think clearly, and delayed reaction time. These side effects make it extremely difficult for a motor vehicle driver to stay focused while operating his or her car.

If you were injured by a person who was driving under the influence of marijuana, please contact the car accident lawyers of Chris Mayo Injury Lawyers by calling (210) 999-9999 today.

San Antonio woman passes away due to injuries from car accident

Posted on May 10th, 2012 No Comments

In January, a car accident involving a San Antonio police officer left one woman with serious injuries. Five months later, the injured woman, a 41-year-old mother, succumbed to her injuries and passed away.

The accident occurred when the female police officer was attempting to render service in a case involving a stolen rig. She put on her flashing lights and signaled with her sirens, but she failed to yield to a car with right-of-way at the intersection of Loop 410 and Roosevelt Avenue. Her patrol unit struck the motor vehicle with full force, causing numerous injuries to the female driver of the damaged vehicle.

The family of the car accident victim is furious with the San Antonio police department. They believe that something more should have been done to reprimand the police officer, who has yet to be charged with any wrongdoing in the accident. A petition was started by the family, and they are looking for someone to take responsibility for the fatal crash.

Our thoughts are with this family as they grieve the loss of their loved one.

Cell phone ban urged for drivers across the country

Posted on December 15th, 2011 No Comments

On Tuesday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Board released a proposal for a nationwide ban on all cell phone use  while driving.

This proposal came after a tragic car accident in August 2010 in Gray Summit, MO that left two dead and injured 38 others.  The driver of the pickup truck that caused the accident was a 19 year old who sent 11 text messages in 11 minutes before the incident.

According to Chairwoman Deborah A.P. Hersman of the NHTSB, “More than 3,000 people lost their lives last year in distraction-related accidents…no call, no text, no update, is worth a human life.”

San Antonio, in addition to Austin, El Paso, and Arlington, banned texting while driving in October of 2010.  Though the NHTSB cannot actually pass any laws banning cell phone use, this proposal sends a very clear and strong message to legislatures that are responsible for changing such laws.
