Actress convicted of vehicular homicide in New Jersey

Posted on November 28th, 2012 No Comments

Former “Melrose Place” actress Amy Locane-Bovenizer was convicted earlier this week of vehicular homicide after she fatally hit a car while she was intoxicated. When the 40 year-old actress was arrested in central New Jersey, her blood alcohol content was almost three times the legal limit. She initially was charged with aggravated manslaughter but was acquitted.

Before fatally injuring a 60 year-old female passenger and seriously hurting the driver, Locane-Bovenizer rear-ended an SUV and fled the scene. The driver of the SUV followed Locane-Bovenizer, knowing she was intoxicated. The driver pursued the actress, both of whom were going the speed limit, for about four miles before the deadly accident occurred. However, evidence shows that Locane-Bovenizer sped up before slamming into the car.

Witnesses who testified at the trial say that the actress had begun drinking at two different events that night. Many saw her drinking at a cast party before she left with her family to go to a barbeque, where she was also seen drinking. Locane-Bovenizer faces between five to ten years in prison for vehicular homicide and must serve 85 percent without the chance of parole. She also faces three to five years for injuring the driver of the car.
