Dram Shop Liability Lawsuit Filed in San Antonio after Fatal Car Accident

Posted on February 22nd, 2013 No Comments

La Vikina Bar & Grill now faces a dram shop liability lawsuit claiming that the bar served alcohol to an “already-intoxicated” individual, who then got behind the wheel of a vehicle, later killing Jorge Badillo, Jr. last October.

Badillo Jr. was killed in a car accident on October 26 by a female driver who had been served at La Vikina. The driver was traveling the incorrect direction on Highway 151, when she struck Badillo Jr.’s vehicle, killing him.

While the driver is being implicated for her role in the accident, the lawsuit is targeting the restaurant as well, stating that they should also be held responsible.

SAPD Announces Extra Patrol on Roads on Halloween

Posted on October 29th, 2012 No Comments

The San Antonio Police Department has announced that they will  be adding an additional 55 police officers to the roadway during this year’s Halloween celebration in order to prevent drunk drivers from getting behind the wheel to help keep everyone safe.

The additional police officers were on the streets beginning Friday evening because Halloween parties and celebration usually take place the weekend before if the holiday falls on a weekday.

Bexar County enforced the ‘No-Refusal’ initiative year round, but other Texas cities that do not enforce it all the time, may do it on heavy drinking weekends, such as this one. Staff from a local news station rode along with police officials in order to see the difference that extra patrols on the roadways made for residents in the area.

It was reported that the additional law enforcement agencies was “extremely beneficial” and gave police an extra eye to make sure that impaired drivers  do not take to the roadway. The police department stated that the extra enforcement was possible because of a grant that was given to them by the Texas Department of Transportation.

Drunk driving puts everyone on the roadway at risk. If you have been injured by a drunk driver, we know that compensation will not erase the affects of the accident, but it hopefully can help alleviate financially stress from you and your family. As shown by a study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, CDC, less and less teenagers in the United States are operating a motor vehicle after consuming alcoholic beverages.

The CDC analyzed thousands of surveys that were completed by high school teenagers across the country. The teens who participated in the study were located in 41 different states. It was determined by the data that the percentage of these teens who drank and drove had declined by approximately 54 percent between 1991 and 2011.

In 1991, 22.3 percent of all of the teens surveyed claimed that they had participated in drinking and driving within 30 days of taking the survey. Two decades later, in 2011, the same survey was distributed to high school teens, and the results indicated that the percentage who chose to drink and drive had declined to 10.3 percent.

New Texas program launched in regards to drunk driving

Posted on June 28th, 2012 No Comments

Drunk driving accidents affect individuals who weren’t even present at the time of the collision. These accidents can destroy families, cause fatalities, and change the course of people’s lives.

In the state of Texas, 1,000 people die each year as a result of these alcohol-related crashes. This large number of fatalities makes Texas the most deadliest state in the nation in regards to drunk driving crashes.

The Department of Transportation has announced a new program that was designed to show how deep these accidents can go, and how important it is to make the right decisions behind the wheel. The program, “Faces of Drunk Driving,” reveals the struggles of drunk driving accident victims as they try to cope with everyday hardships after treacherous accidents.
