West Side Crash Kills Man

Posted on February 15th, 2013 No Comments

A driver was instantly killed after a car rear ended his vehicle on West Side Highway, Sunday officials said.

The unidentified driver was reportedly moving slowly when a car driven by a uniformed off-duty deputy of Bexar County Sheriff’s Office slammed into the back of his car, San Antonio police reported. Officer Michael Moore said the off-duty deputy was surprised when the slow moving vehicle apparently swerved in front of his car. The two vehicles then slammed to a concrete barrier, pinned the other driver inside his car as a result of the impact. The pinned driver was given cardiopulmonary resuscitation by military personnel who happened to be also on the scene, but could not be revived. Two other passengers of the rear ended car were rushed to the hospital for minor injuries.

The off-duty deputy himself was reportedly uninjured and is unlikely to face criminal charges.

Losing a loved one, particularly in an unexpected accident, is difficult. Our attorneys at the Chris Mayo Law Firm send their thoughts and condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the driver killed in this accident.

Car Crashes into Local Store

Posted on February 7th, 2013 No Comments

On Thursday, January 24, Fox29 news reported that an elderly woman crashed her vehicle into a local liquor store around 4:30pm. Her name was not released at the time of the report.

Police say that the elderly woman has arthritis, and that this condition might have led to the loss of control over her vehicle, causing her to crash into the Thrifty Liquor, located at Babcock and Huebner in northwest San Antonio last week.

Police and reporters received statements from store manager, John Gonzales, who was the only person inside the store at the time of the crash. He said that the crash “sounded just like a bomb going off.”

No one was injured in the accident, but damages are estimated to be around $9,000. Workers, according to reports, spent several hours making sure that all of the glass and broken alcohol bottles were completely cleaned up.

Teenager in Central Texas Passes Away after Accident

Posted on February 5th, 2013 No Comments

Police report that Christopher Schultz, a 16-year-old high school student who suffered a car accident in Central Texas last month, has died from his injuries.

Friends and family of Schultz recently gathered for a candlelit vigil in honor of Schultz, and his family has announced that it plans to have Schultz’s organs donated to those in need.

Police reported that Schultz was the only person who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

Earlier in January, police reported that Schultz had been driving his vehicle at a “high rate” of speed, and lost control over it, veering into oncoming traffic and hitting a Dodge truck. No one in the truck suffered severe injuries, but Schultz was taken to a local hospital to treat a serious head injury. He passed away once he was transported to Texas Children’s Hospital.

Our thoughts are with Christopher Schultz’s family and friends at this difficult time.

Suspicious Single Car Accident in San Antonio on Monday

Posted on January 29th, 2013 No Comments

A single car was involved in a car accident this past Monday, on Interstate 10, resulting in minor injuries to one person.

Police report that a father and son were in the single vehicle. They suspect drunk driving was involved, but when they arrived at the accident, the son claimed he was the driver. The father was “heavily” intoxicated when police arrived.

Police have suggested that they believe that the father was actually driving the vehicle, and that he and his son “switched places” before police arrived. This suspicion has not been confirmed and no charges have yet been filed.

The car was traveling east on Highway 10, when the driver lost control of the vehicle, and the vehicle swerved and hit the center median. The father suffered no injuries while the son was taken to the hospital for non-lifethreatening injuries.

Tire Blowout Causes Fatal Texas Rollover Accident

Posted on November 30th, 2012 No Comments

Early Friday morning on SH 130, a rollover accident claimed the life of one person, and injured three others. The accident occurred after a tire blew out on a Ford F-250 pickup truck around 7:00 a.m. The pickup truck was hauling a trailer when a rear tire on the truck blew out. The tire blow out caused the vehicle to roll, landing on a median in between the northbound and the southbound side of the highway.

State troopers that responded to the scene of the accident stated that the accident could have been prevented if the driver of the truck would have maintained his tire pressure. The driver became entrapped in the vehicle after the accident, and was able to survive the accident, but suffered critical injuries. There were three passengers in the truck at the time of the accident, two sustained serious injuries, and one died as a result of the rollover accident.

The impact of the accident caused the southbound lanes of SH 130 to be closed for several hours. Traffic on the south side of the highway was forced to exit at Elroy Road. An investigation into the fatal accident is underway, and it is unknown at this time whether or not the passengers of the vehicle were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident.

85 MPH Toll Road Sees First Death

Posted on November 13th, 2012 No Comments

The stretch of highway that has received national attention in Texas has seen its first death in the form of a fatal car accident. State Highway 130 is a 41-mile portion of highway that connects Austin to Seguin. The speed limit for this section of highway is the highest in the country, at 85 miles per hour.

This high speed limit has gained several critics, stating the high speeds are directly correlated to more traffic deaths. The first death on the new toll road, which opened last month, took place on Sunday afternoon. Around 2 p.m. in the afternoon, a 60-year-old woman was attempting to enter the southbound lanes of the highway, when she was hit by a Chevrolet Tahoe.

The Tahoe was also traveling south on State Highway 130 when the accident unfolded. It is unknown at this time whether the speed played a direct factor in the collision, but a representative for the Governor’s Highway Safety Association stated that when “speeds go up, deaths unfortunately go up.” Authorities investigating the fatal accident claim that the car may have been traveling upwards of 70 miles per hour at the time because it was already on the 85 MPH part of the highway.

Paramedics arrived on the highway, and pronounced the 60-year-old Lockhart woman dead at the scene. The driver of the Tahoe was transported to a nearby hospital to be evaluated, but was said to not have sustained serious injuries. An investigation surrounding the causes of the car accident is still ongoing at this time.

Country singer involved in Texas car accident

On Friday afternoon in Nocona, Texas, Sammy Kershaw was involved in a serious car accident.

The country singer was inside his tour bus with nine band members, when a motor vehicle crashed directly into the bus. The impact of the collision caused the other motor vehicle to be declared completely totaled. The driver of that vehicle was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

No one on Sammy Kershaw’s bus was severely injured, but all of them sustained bumps and bruises as a result. Kershaw stated that the car accident could have unfolded in a completely different way, and he is thankful that no one was critically injured. No concert dates have been rescheduled due to this accident.

3 people injured in I-35 car accident over the weekend

Posted on September 10th, 2012 No Comments

A three-vehicle accident on I-35 took place Saturday night near the Walnut Avenue exit.

The accident occurred just around 8 p.m., and caused one of the three cars to roll on it’s side, trapping it’s driver inside. The accident spanned over all of the southbound I-35 lanes, and therefore emergency vehicles had to use an additional northbound lane in order to get to the car accident victims.

Three different people had to be taken to nearby hospitals in San Antonio and New Braunfels in order to be treated for injuries they sustained in the accident. Several lanes on I-35 remained closed for approximately one hour while the car crash was investigated, and cleared.

U.S. 281 accident kills 1 in San Antonio

Posted on July 10th, 2012 No Comments

The rain-covered roads proved to be hazardous yesterday in San Antonio, contributing to a deadly accident between a semi truck and an SUV on U.S. 281.

The accident took place when the driver of the SUV did not notice the semi truck come to a stop in front of him on the highway. Due to the slick condition of the roadway, he did not have enough time to stop, subsequently rear-ending the semi truck. A young passenger in his vehicle, estimated to be between 7 years old and 10 years old, was killed on impact.

Two other individuals were taken to a nearby hospital, one of them being a young girl. At the time of the accident, both of the young passengers were wearing seat belts. Traffic was confined to one lane on the highway for several hours while the accident was being assessed and investigated.

At this time, we would like to extend our deepest condolences to the friends and family of the young victim.
