Improper Social Security payments made to 36,000

Posted on September 20th, 2013 No Comments

In a report released on Friday, September 13, the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) showed that around 36,000 workers were wrongfully given disability payments by the Social Security Administration from December 2010 to January 2013. This resulted in an estimated $1.3 billion in improper disability payments.

Less than 1 percent of the beneficiaries and disability payments were affected by the supposed error, but GAO officials are saying this puts a dent on the SSA’s policing system. The SSA said it is 99% accurate when it comes to making disability payment but admitted even the slightest margin of error can translate to big amounts.

SSA records show that 8.2 million disabled workers received disability payments in December 2010, with the number recently growing to 9 million. In 2011, it released $137 billion in disability payments.

Johnson & Johnson recalls Motrin due to fears of contamination

Johnson & Johnson announced on September 7 that it will be recalling 200,000 bottles of Motrin Infants formula due to risks that it might be contaminated by PTFE, which is a type of plastic also used in Teflon coatings.

J&J’s McNeil unit vice president Ed Kuffner told the Associated Press that the company decided to recall the product because the infant drops came in the same shipment as Ibuprofen provided by a third-party supplier that did have plastic particles in it. Both products underwent the same manufacturing process, he said.

The recalled half-ounce bottles have the lot numbers DCB3T01, DDB4R01, and DDB4S01.

The effects of the looming loss of the Social Security disability program

Posted on September 8th, 2013 No Comments

With the Social Security disability insurance program in danger of having its benefits cut by 20% in 2016 unless Congress enacts legislation that would prevent the trust fund from running out, recipients could be in for marked lifestyle changes – some that would ultimately leave them grappling for funds to sustain everyday and basic necessities, such as food.

At present, nearly 11 million Americans, which includes around 8.8 million disabled workers plus their spouses and children, obtain disability benefits.

SSDI advocates are of the opinion that Congress should allocate a slightly larger portion of Social Security’s payroll tax revenues to its disability fund and a slightly lowered portion to its Old Age and Survivors Insurance retirement fund, a move that could keep both funds full until 2033.

Our lawyers at the Chris Mayo Law Firm can assist disabled workers in San Antonio with both filing initial claims and fighting denied claims. To speak with our attorneys and learn more about how we might be able to help you, call (210) 999-9999 today.

Eighty-seven-year-old Mary Poppins and Dick Van Dyke Show star Dick Van Dyke suffered an accident when his car caught fire along the 101 freeway near Los Angeles.

The spokesman for the California Highway Patrol, in an interview with NBC News, said people called 911 at around 2 p.m. Pacific Time on Monday, August 20 to report a white Jaguar they saw engulfed in flames on the right shoulder near the Parkway Calabasas exit in the west San Fernando Valley.

A man pulled Van Dyke from the vehicle. The actor was found slumped over his vehicle’s steering wheel.

Two hours after the fire was put out, it was still sitting on the freeway waiting for a tow truck to haul it away.

Unfortunately, many car accidents are the result of other drivers’ actions or the negligence of vehicle manufacturers.
