Trooper patrols increase in Texas for Memorial Day weekend

Posted on May 25th, 2012 No Comments

The Department of Public Safety has decided to increase the number of trooper patrols this weekend throughout the state of Texas in order to protect the public from erratic and irresponsible drivers on the road for the Memorial Day holiday.

The added trooper patrols will be present from Friday, May 25, until Monday, May 28. Their focus will be on drunk drivers, people traveling at excessive speeds, and drivers who are not wearing their seat belts.

Last year, the increase in patrols for Memorial Day weekend resulted in 518 drunk driving arrests, 6,000 citations for speeding, and 1,500 citations for seat belt violations. Police officers are urging Texas drivers to act responsibly over the weekend and proceed with caution on the roadways.

Drunk driving accidents can result in severe injuries. If you have been injured in a car accident due to a drunk driver, please contact the drunk driving lawyers of Chris Mayo Injury Lawyers (210) 999-9999 today.

The effects of marijuana on drivers

Posted on May 18th, 2012 No Comments

Driving under the influence of marijuana has been linked to fatal consequences.

Several studies have been conducted on the subject, and a connection between marijuana use and fatal car accidents has been established. The major reason for this connection stems from the mental effects that marijuana has on an individual.

The effects of marijuana can include paranoia, inability to think clearly, and delayed reaction time. These side effects make it extremely difficult for a motor vehicle driver to stay focused while operating his or her car.

San Antonio woman passes away due to injuries from car accident

Posted on May 10th, 2012 No Comments

In January, a car accident involving a San Antonio police officer left one woman with serious injuries. Five months later, the injured woman, a 41-year-old mother, succumbed to her injuries and passed away.

The accident occurred when the female police officer was attempting to render service in a case involving a stolen rig. She put on her flashing lights and signaled with her sirens, but she failed to yield to a car with right-of-way at the intersection of Loop 410 and Roosevelt Avenue. Her patrol unit struck the motor vehicle with full force, causing numerous injuries to the female driver of the damaged vehicle.

The family of the car accident victim is furious with the San Antonio police department. They believe that something more should have been done to reprimand the police officer, who has yet to be charged with any wrongdoing in the accident. A petition was started by the family, and they are looking for someone to take responsibility for the fatal crash.

Our thoughts are with this family as they grieve the loss of their loved one.

Posted on May 2nd, 2012 No Comments

Cinco de Mayo parties will be in full swing come this Saturday, and it is important that people are not getting behind the wheel after consuming alcoholic beverages.

This is the first time in the last five years that the Mexican holiday falls on a weekend, and police departments are taking extra precautions when dealing with potential drunk drivers on the roads. There will be additional patrols out on Saturday trying to prevent senseless car accidents from taking place.

With so many celebrations occurring all over the San Antonio area, it is important to assign a designated driver before participating in the events, or to secure a cab in order to safely return home after celebrating this weekend.

Car accidents caused by drunk drivers can cause severe injuries, and even death. If you have been injured in a car accident that was caused by a drunk driver, please contact the San Antonio drunk driving injury lawyers of Chris Mayo Injury Lawyers by calling (210) 999-9999 today.
