The accident occurred shortly after 8:00 a.m. Sunday near Mile Maker 540 on Interstate 10. Highway Patrol Trooper Eric Kendrick said Correa fell asleep at the wheel, the vehicle veered off the roadway and struck the Frederick Creek bridge guardrail. It was reported the driver’s side of the car was torn off. The car spun around several times before coming to a rest. Three passengers were ejected from the car.

According to the accident report, Correa was transported by medical helicopter to University Hospital in San Antonio. His 4 year-old daughter, Destiny Correa, was also flown to University Hospital.

Two other passengers in the Cobalt, 21 year-old Daniel Perez and 16 year-old Jennifer Karr were not injured in the accident.

The accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims’ families and friends during this difficult time.
