A pickup truck carrying a 61-year-old man and his 45-year-old woman passenger was struck by a dump truck while attempting to turn left off the highway. Both were thrown through the windshield of the pickup truck. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene while the man was rushed to University Hospital by air.
The driver of the dump truck admitted to failing to see the pickup truck stop to turn, and sustained no injuries. The collision caused the pickup truck to cross the highway median into oncoming traffic where it collided with a vehicle driven by a 19-year-old male. The 19-year-old was also transported to University Hospital. A 32-year-old man following behind the 19-year-old was also involved in the accident when he crashed into the pileup. Neither he nor his 4-year-old daughter were injured.
According to Bulverde Police Chief Joe Hamilton, the investigation is continuing and no charges have been filed.
