A 33-year-old woman was charged with capital murder Monday in the death of her 3-week-old son. Otty Sanchez allegedly used a knife and two swords to kill her son before allegedly stabbing herself and slicing her own throat.

Police said Monday that Sanchez was recovering in the hospital and was being held on $1 million bail. San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said the crime scene was too gruesome to describe, while mentioning that Sanchez ate parts of her child’s body.

Investigators said they are looking into Sanchez’s mental health history and believe that she could have been in psychiatric institutions in the past.
